Over the last year… I’ve asked many of you why you do what you do. It is my turn to answer that question and to share something very personal with you. Remember the following video?
I started doing websites in 1996. I was recently laid off and wasn’t sure what to do next. I have always been very technical and very creative. So I launched out on my own with one simple desire. Be the one people could count on to succeed online. Over the years, I have worked with large and small clients… and I must confess… there is a soft-spot in my heart for the small business owner. Large companies have lots of money and lots of people to get things done. Us small guys are constantly working on all aspects of our businesses.
Earlier this year, I made a no-looking back commitment to provide high-quality, reasonably priced mobile-friendly websites and strategic content marketing services to the small business owner. You guys deserve a break. ShoesOptional is honored to be of service. YOU are WHY I do what I do and WHY ShoesOptional does what WE do!
For 2015, we are already creating some great mobile-friendly websites, awesome optimized content and amazing ways to grow your presence online.
Recently Google updated their mobile search to include the phrase “Mobile-friendly” in the results. If your site isn’t optimized for mobile, you’re missing a significant opportunity to connect with your target audience. If you’re wondering if you’re site is mobile-friendly, try this tool from Google.
ShoesOptional builds all websites using responsive design to ensure that you are mobile-friendly. Take a look at some of the packages we offer to get your website online & mobile-friendly.
I’m not going to lie to you. Things have been extremely busy. We’ve been working with some amazing clients. We are building mobile friendly websites (responsive design) and getting results through strategic content marketing.
Enough about us. As I shared in a previous email, I am seeking to understand WHY individuals & businesses do what they do. Author & Speaker Simon Sinek gives an amazing description of the power ofWHY (not just in business, but in life). Here’s his TedTalk that has been viewed over 3 million times on YouTube & over 18 million times at Ted.com:
So WHY do I want to know about your WHY? I’ll let you in on a little secret. It is your WHY that sets you apart from your competitor. In marketing terms, it is your USP (unique selling proposition). It is this WHY that allows Apple to continue to set & break sales records over and over again. Does your website clearly communicate your WHY? If not, WHY not?
Let us help define & share your WHY in ways that will attract the type of clients you want to your business. Visit: https://shoesoptional.com/why and share your WHY with us.
I’ve been in business for a number of years and am declaring 2014 as the year of success. Here’s my road map. Let me know if it works for you too!
Make Money Monday
Most people hate Monday. Personally, I like the opportunity to hit the ground running and generate revenue for my business. Make Money Monday is all about focusing on tasks that generate revenue.
Tough Task Tuesday
Admit it. We all have those task that bring out the procrastinator in best of us. Avoidance behavior kicks in and distractions take over. Tough Task Tuesday is about identifying and tackling the task head on. Need to invoice your customers? Need to write a blog post? Need to make that difficult call? Relegate it to Tough Task Tuesday and knock it out.
We all understand the phrase win-win. Do we actively do anything to create a win-win with our customers, vendors, employees or prospects? Have you asked your customers what you can do to make their lives easier? Have you reached out to one of your employees to understand how you can help them grow in their career? Win-Win Wednesday is about creating relationships in your business.
Think It Through Thursday
It has been said that if all you do is work in your business and not on your business, you will remain small and stifled. Think It Through Thursday is about working on your business. Review your business plan. Take a look at your projections. Work on new products or services. This is crucial to the long-term success of your business.
Fantastic Finish Friday
You’ve made it to Friday. You can see the weekend from here and you ready to ease into things. Have you considered how you can finish the week and make it a record week for your business. Is there one more call you can make? Any lingering sales from Make Money Monday that you can put on the books? Any additional Win-Win Wednesday chances to bring your customers into the weekend thinking about your business?
Study Success Saturday
Small business owners are all about working hard and playing hard. Who in business do you admire? What business books have you been wanting to read? Have you revisited classics like Think & Grow Rich or modern classics like Rich Dad Poor Dad. How about Start With Why?
Stop Striving Sunday
Small business owners are notorious about not taking time to recharge. One of my favorite versus in the Bible is Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (New International Version) Regardless of your spiritual views, the advice is simple. Stop striving. Take time to be with your family. Get out and enjoy the life you are working so hard to build for yourself. Take a long nap. Go for a long walk on the beach… shoes optional of course. Reflect and give thanks for the amazing blessings in your life.
I’ve recently had lunch at Chipotle. I glanced at the top of my receipt to find the following:
“You decide what’s inside.”
Many of us don’t realize the God-given ability to chose what goes inside. This includes things we consume both with our mouths and our souls. So again I ask. What will you decide in 2014.
It is NOT “to thine own self be true” by rather “to be thine own true self.” That is a life worth living.
A Formula to Live with Abandon
Awhile ago, I stumbled upon a formula that has changed the way I live. I share this in hopes that you will have a life that is lived without fear or excuses and ultimately no reqrets.
Fear is by far the most crippling emotion we have as humans. It paralyzes us into settling for lives of dispair and frustration.
Because of fear, we make excuses for how our lives have turned out. We blame everything and take no responsibility for anything.
A live lived with fear and excuses leads to a life of regrets. Stop the fear… and the excuses stop. Stop the excuses… and the regrets stop piling up and feeding into the fear.
